Hybrid clouds for better efficiency

With business growth and users’ changing needs regarding IT, data centre administrators should consider using hybrid cloud model and services in IaaS, PaaS and SaaS. But they should remember about the challenges posed by the new technologies: standardization, security and different distribution of costs. Traditional internal IT operating centres have been built to ensure predefined way of their performance.         


The demand for resources was changing only in very narrow limits and there could not be required more than IT was able to offer. With the growing expectations from business and with more advanced technology, corporate data centres offer resources on multi-tenancy basis to meet users’ requirements for applications and fulfil specific business needs.           


The need to meet business changes with the traditional approach of investing in more IT infrastructure will boost employment and raise the costs of technology and processes. All of these factors are changing the way that corporate IT infrastructure is built, managed and used. This is why businesses are implementing hybrid clouds and use the SPI service model (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS). Especially SaaS helps to get flexibility and scalability of the infrastructure, which provides the ability to meet business needs.           


Changing the traditional approach to the provisioning of resources in cloud models, it is worth remembering that not all processes should be moved into cloud infrastructure. But considering cloud options - the hybrid cloud in this case - IT structure should meet certain requirements:  


• IT must provide reliable services at constantly high level, while avoiding data loss and security risks. However, it is important to ensure that processes can be moved to the hybrid cloud environment without losing its functionality or downtimes.  


• It should be remembered that the hybrid cloud model must be supported by security system designed to run on virtualized platforms. Implementing dedicated systems securities directly to virtual environments will result in unexpected costs and will make achieving the assumed economic benefits unable.    


• The use of IT resources must be standardized and the cloud environment has to be managed as a whole to provide simple systems performance monitoring and service levels. This allows the IT department has the ability to manage unplanned events with minimal risk to users and the business.     Next steps in the transformation are more challenging. To enable the use of virtual infrastructure, application platforms must relate to a method for providing the key business databases and applications.    


The main advantages of the hybrids are:  


• As IT architecture is required to present its performance in terms of cost, service levels and flexibility, it must be designed so as to consolidate cloud infrastructure resources. This will result in risk reduction and better efficiency in delivering business-critical applications.  


• At the stage of building and starting traditional structures the emphasis was on creating and configuring systems as needed. Special monitoring tools were needed to identify all steps in the process of ordering, replying and delivering resources. In the hybrid cloud infrastructure the way processes are built puts strong emphasis on the consistent and extensive procedures automation. This enables automatic multi-sourcing and the ability of planning storage and performance management which constitutes the essential characteristics of cloud systems.  


• The hybrid cloud enables the IT to move from time-consuming chores of what is breaking down, towards service delivery model according to the direction of business and operational changes.
