The Cloud is for Big Data

A growing number of organizations and companies consider cloud computing the best place to process their big data. In the times when competitiveness is a key element in business success, its most important asset becomes information. The organizations and companies that own and process the vast amounts of data every day, every second analyze such large packets of information that some of traditional data centers have ever processed. 



Weather forecasting, NASA, and social networking sites


The U.S. Climate Corporation daily analyzes weather data from 2.5 million locations and daily builds climate models. Then processes the huge amounts of data, called Big Data, along with 150 billion of ground observations in order to generate 10 trillion of weather simulations. The result of these analyzes is weather forecasts to secure the worth $ 3 trillion U.S. dollars world agricultural industry against financial loss caused by adverse weather conditions.             

NASA space agency also keeps its Big Data in the cloud. The data collected during space missions are stored and processed at the Nebula Cloud Computing Platform.         

Using an online store or social network site each click: “tweet”, like, subscribing, sharing, exchange generates data. Processing large amounts of data is extended to their storage, processing, analyzing, organizing, sharing, distributing and displaying in such a way that companies can transform the data into knowledge, derive necessary information and thus make better business decisions.      


Cloud computing         


Cloud computing provides the ability to analyze large amounts of data and draw from them what is called wide Business Intelligence (BI) without restrictions related to the corporate computing power. The cloud gives access to unlimited virtual computing power on demand and firms pay only for the resources that it actually used. Therefore, computing processes calculated in the total cost – are less expensive, bring higher revenues and data is processed faster in scale.           

The cloud’s basic assumption is flexibility and ability to zoom the technology infrastructure in or out on-demand to make it bring cost advantages. While traditional data center has predictable storage volume, analytical processes allowing to set new trends and correlations between data, are operations that require unpredictable number of computing cycles and space. To process big data in a traditional model of infrastructure, a company would have to obtain the maximum possible processing power, which it would probably be needed in the future. When processing Big Data in the cloud, however, a company can expand and utilize the necessary resources depending on current needs. It does not have to wait weeks or months for the acquisition and preparation of physical servers and storage space. Cloud computing allows you to provision hundreds or thousands of servers ready to use within hours.              

The cloud speeds up the big data analytics. Besides, the cost of experimenting with big data analytics in the cloud is negligible, so companies can often perform test analysis of big data and quickly get comprehensive answers to difficult questions.  

     Apart from that, cloud computing provides continuous scalability and flexibility and gives organizations the opportunity to focus on reaping business value from their data, instead of focusing on maintenance and management of their computing infrastructure. It gives new possibilities that are not achievable in traditional infrastructure in an incomparably lower price.
